HandleBards – Much Ado About Nothing on Friday 18th July at 7pm, The Common Room.
Pedalling from venue to venue with all of their set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes, the HandleBards are a four-strong troupe of actors who are spending the summer bringing environmentally sustainable Shakespeare to venues across the UK.
Join the troupe when they return to Oundle to play at the Oundle School Common Room for a bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing like you’ve never seen before. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.
Creative Oundle for Organists held its annual ‘Pulling Out the Stops’ course from 9-11 April: three (mostly!) gloriously sunny days in which 19 young organists got to play a variety of different organs in and around Oundle, studying with top tutors and enjoying the company of like-minded new friends. On top of classes on all aspects of playing the organ, we also squeezed in a visit to Cambridge, where we were treated to a recital by one of our tutors (Alexander Hamilton) and played two instruments. In Oundle, we also enjoyed a session on the WOOFYT (Wooden One-Octave Organ for Young Technologists) and a class in choral conducting. Francesca Massey, another of our tutors, also treated students to a recital in Oundle School Chapel, and the students themselves all played in our final recital there to close the course. Huge thanks to all who hosted us at Oundle School, the church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, St Mary and All Saints, Fotheringhay, John Miley, Woodnewton, and Trinity Hall and Selwyn Colleges, Cambridge. And to our volunteers and hosts who housed tutors – thank you! We couldn’t do it without you.
You can see what we got up to on our Facebook or Instagram pages, but here are a few photos to give you a taste. Our students ranged from age 9 to 15, beginners to Grade 5, and we loved working with every single one of them. Next up is our Summer School from 11-17August, which is already fully booked with a waiting list. We can’t wait!
Call for help with our organ courses!
We host a second residential course this August for young organists. In order to keep costs down, we house our tutors with hosts in the Oundle community, and we need your help as we seek to expand our roster of willing hosts.
What’s involved? We are simply looking for our friendly tutors to have their own bedroom and bathroom, a quiet place to rest and recharge during their busy time with us. Tutors eat with us at Oundle school, so no food is required. Bed, bathroom, and a key so that they won’t disturb and can come and go are all that is needed!
How long? For the summer we house tutors for up to seven nights. Our hosts are a vital support for us. As a small charity we simply can’t afford to house all our tutors in a hotel or B and B. Please consider becoming a host!
