Performing, conducting choirs and teaching have formed the backbone of Sarah Baldock’s career since leaving Cambridge, where she was Organ Scholar at Pembroke College.
She joined Winchester Cathedral at the age of 23 to found the Girls’ Choir, which she directed for ten years, during which time she was appointed Assistant Director of Music, playing the organ for the Cathedral Choir and working as piano accompanist to the Waynflete Singers.
In 2008 she succeeded Dr Alan Thurlow as Organist and Master of the Choristers at Chichester Cathedral where she directed the choir of boys and men, two Southern Cathedrals Festivals and made a second solo organ CD. She continues to guest conduct choirs in the UK and USA, and as part of her role as Director of Music at Winchester College, she was Musical Director of Winchester Philharmonic Choir performing works such as Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Bach’s B minor Mass and Poulenc’s Gloria in Winchester Cathedral. Particular highlights have included working as Director of the Girl Chorister Course at St Thomas Fifth Avenue in New York, and collaborations with the Stavanger Girls’ Choir in Norway.
As an organ soloist, Sarah Baldock has toured America, Europe and many parts of the UK and Channel Islands. Recent solo concerts include at Birmingham Town Hall, Durham and Salisbury Cathedrals and King’s College Cambridge and as an accompanist, live broadcasts with the BBC Singers and Concert Orchestra. She is a regular tutor for the Royal College of Organists and Oundle for Organists and has previously worked at Tonbridge School, Southampton University and Cheltenham Ladies’ College, where she is now Director of Music.
